Big news broke in New York just prior to Labor Day weekend – but it wasn’t the news of a DBL benefit increase New York workers were hoping for.
Instead, the State of New York raised the PFL premium contribution rate starting January 1, 2026. It’s an 11.31% increase, bringing the new rate to 0.432% of an employee’s wages each pay period, not to exceed a maximum employee contribution of $411.91 annually.
At The DBL Center, we stay on top of news related to employee benefits so that our brokers can be prepared and knowledgeable. We are your top resource, so you can position your brokerage as a trusted resource for your clients.

Plan Ahead for Success
As summer draws to a close, it’s time to start planning for a successful fourth quarter. Brokers licensed in Minnesota will have an opportunity to strengthen their relationships with business owners and deliver mandatory Minnesota Paid Family Leave through a private plan. The state of Minnesota rolls out PFML January 1, 2026. Employers have until November 10, 2025, to present a private plan for approval by the state. Minnesotans finally a PFML claim may be eligible to receive between 55% and 90% of their average weekly wage for up to 12 weeks.
The DBL Center can help Minnesota brokers privatize PFML for their clients for better service and potential cost savings. It’s also a good time to review clients’ benefits package for risk gaps that can be filled with other ancillary benefits.
